For years PIV showed up to other people's tournaments. On Sunday, June 7, 2026, we ran our own.
The 2026 PIV x UNO Tournament, presented with our sponsor UNO Group, filled 21 Badminton Club in Fremont from 9am until the last rally. It was the first open amateur tournament PIV has ever hosted. Nine brackets, a lot of shuttles, and a lot of people who gave up a Sunday to make it happen.

Three events, three flights
We built the draw so everyone got a bracket that matched their game, whether they were chasing a title or playing their first tournament:
Events: Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles
Flights: A (Zhongyu 中羽 level 4+), B (level 3), and C (level 2)
That makes nine brackets in total, all played on the BWF 21-point system. Depending on entries, each bracket ran as elimination with consolation, a playoff, or a round robin, so nobody drove to Fremont for a single match.
Behind the tournament desk
Running a tournament is a very different sport from playing in one. Our volunteers ran check-in, scheduling, and court calls from the tournament desk all day. They kept matches moving, answered a thousand "which court am I on?" questions, and somehow stayed smiling.

We also ran a small PIV Little Market (小卖部) next to the desk with water, Gatorade, coconut water, and shuttles for anyone who ran out mid-draw.

The champions
Congratulations to all nine champion pairs:
Bracket | Champions |
|---|---|
Men's Doubles A | Jonathan Lin / Jesse Yang |
Men's Doubles B | Eric Xu / Link Ko |
Men's Doubles C | Ke Jin / Guanyu He |
Women's Doubles A | Olivia Li / Felisha Li |
Women's Doubles B | Olivia Li / Felisha Li |
Women's Doubles C | Maggie Ma / Laura Huang |
Mixed Doubles A | Tuan Tran / Britney Nguyen |
Mixed Doubles B | Xingxing Wang / Laura Huang |
Mixed Doubles C | Norah Su / Alex Yang |
Olivia Li and Felisha Li won both the A and B Women's Doubles brackets. The Mixed Doubles B final went the distance, finishing 24–22 in the third game. Runners-up, third places, and scores for every bracket are on our tournament page.

Thank you
The day ended with a raffle, a lot of applause, and a very tired volunteer crew.

Thank you to every player who signed up and played it out. Thank you to UNO Group for sponsoring, to 21 Badminton Club for hosting us, and to the volunteers who were there before the first match and long after the last one.

This was event #1
We set out to build a tournament the Bay Area badminton community would want to come back to: well run, fair, and fun at every level. This was the first one, and it won't be the last.
Whatever bracket you play in, the motto is the same: 菜就多练, Practice If Vegetable. Practice more, play together, improve together.

Want to hear first when registration opens for the next PIV tournament? Get in touch, or come play with us on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Details are on our club page.
